North Carolina is one of those lucky states with a great diversity of climate to enjoy from the ever popular coastal plains to the spectacular Great Smoky Mountains which show us the rain forest side of things. Although the coast’s popularity displays an ever filling traffic flow of beach goers travelers should take a second look at the stunning Western North Carolina mountains offing many fun-filled Things to Do.

Let’s begin by looking at the obvious attraction, The Great Smoky Mountain National Park! Truly a beauty in itself with over a half million pristine acres bordering Tennessee and North Carolina not to mention the array of wildlife. The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983 and remains one of the most ecologically rich and diverse temperate zone protected areas in the world. Another mind jarring fact is the amount of overall annual visitors which exceeds 9 million. All national parks combined receive just under 35 million total annual visitors meaning The Great Smoky National Park somehow pulls in 26% of all national forest visitors nationwide. Visiting this wondrous national park is a must thing to do during your visit to North Carolina whether driving through or partaking in a hike on any part of its 800 miles of maintain trails.

Don’t think for a minute the park is the only attraction as Western North Carolina is an outdoor adventure paradise with options that include world class white water rafting, phenomenal single track mountain biking, nail biting motorcycle drives, adventure thrill-seeking ziplining, rich culture experiences, unparallelled mountain golfing, stunning waterfalls, serine mountain stream fly fishing, and the list goes on.

The Nantahala Gorge is home to some of the largest White Water Rafting outfitters in the world offering dozens of participant options from family friendly to extreme class IV and V rapids. Most of these outfitters have been operating since the early 1970’s and continue to grow in popularity for visitors. Popular rivers to ride include the Nantahala, Ocoee, Chattooga, and the Cheoah to name a few. For lesser thrill seekers Deep Creek Recreation area in the Smoky Mountain National Park near Bryson City offers exciting tubing and the Tuckaseegee River flowing parallel to the Smoky Mountain Parkway between Dillsboro and Whittier offers Mom approved rafting for young children.

Mountain Bikers can fantasize about perfect single track or the could live it by riding the Tsali Trails along side Lake Fontana. The park service that manages Tsali got it right when designing and setting up a rule system to maximize riders experience. Four separate looped trails make up the approximately 42 miles of epic riding each of which have photo opportunity vistas throughout. Mountain bikers will not have issues like running into horseback riders and will experience few if any riders coming head on as the trails have specific designated days only for biking and they also direct traffic flow to minimize any potential accidents. They charge a nominal fee of a few dollars at the parking area but considering the upkeep it is well worth it.

With world famous names like Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway road motorcyclists flock to Western North Carolina like an epidemic (but in a good way). There are probably not a whole lot of true bikers in the world that haven’t at least heard of the Tail of the Dragon with 318 curves in just a short 11 miles. Making up the southwestern border of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park starting at Deals Gap on highway 129 bikers will never forget this experience. Even though the Tail of the Dragon is the most popular and famous riders should not pass up riding on areas like the Cherohala Skyway which is growing in popularity and the Blue Ridge Parkway offering over 300 miles of undeveloped mountain roads.

North Carolina Ziplining (aka. Canopy Tours) although fairly new is growing with extreme popularity. With grande mountains mixed with a variety of trees this area is a nesting ground of perfection for treetop adventures. This type of adventure business is no doubt still in its infancy and will see major growth and technology through the next decade. Participants can expect a safe exhilarating tour that will consist of gliding from tree to tree while wearing a climbing harness and rolling across steel cables on high tech pulley systems. Some zipline tour businesses are integrating sky bridges, swings, aerial treks, and more to make these experiences absolutely memorable and participants wanting more.

The town of Cherokee sits at the North Carolina side of the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and offers rich Cherokee Indian Culture. Yes, it is true that they also have a large Harrah’s Casino that attracts 10’s of thousands of visitors each month but much of the local natives have kept their heritage important of in front of education. Unto These Hills is the longest running outdoor drama in the United States offering a first hand experience of their history. Connected to the theater is the Indian Village that displays the Cherokee life in the 1760’s through live displays and within one mile the Museum of Cherokee Indian sits displaying artifacts depicting the culture for 11,000 years.

Golfers admire the popularity and courses offered at the famous Pinehurst area of North Carolina but the mountains offer unparalleled golf courses to enjoy. Although these courses vary in difficulty all will display beautiful views and peaceful playtime.

For travelers that enjoy the serenity of Waterfalls Western North Carolina does not have a shortage. Although not even close to all what is offered throughout the region Jackson County has designed a detailed waterfall map to follow while visiting. A favorite among enthusiasts is Whitewater Falls which is the highest waterfall in the eastern U.S. falling 411 feet. Spending a day exploring a handful of NC Waterfalls will provide ample photo opportunities and memories to boot.

Last, but not least, the rivers and streams flowing through the NC mountains offers an almost unlimited amount of world class fly fishing. Well stocked of brook, brown, and rainbow trout anglers have hundreds of location options to choose from throughout this part of the state. Whether experienced, a beginner, or even a cast fisherman anglers of all abilities will enjoy the local waters.

Visiting WNC (Western North Carolina) without doubt offers an array of Things To Do from mild to wild and should be on the top of travelers Go To List.

Randy Bonds is co-owner of Rental Cabins in North Carolina called Sunset Farm Cabins located in the heart of it all near each of the activities listed above. For more information on Things To Do in NC please visit our website. We hope to see you in the mountains.

Carolina rigging has become a well respected method for catching large numbers of fish. This does not just mean any old fish; it also has been proven time and time again to catch quality fish as well. A good Carolina rig can not only place well in a fishing event, but can also make the difference of a win.

A good set-up can include things like the Zoom Trick Worm sitting behind a Tru-Tungsten Sinker whose weight is determined by a number of factors including currents, depth and even the amount of cover. Tie that up with a bit of 17 pound test with a 12 to 14 pound test leader and you are good to go.

The Carolina rig has also been well recorded at catching a Florida bass right after a cold-front.

It is the magnetic field created by the Tru-Tungsten Force bead that helps to attract the bass do to its ability to allow all of the sinkers to go down evenly and there in lay the path to attract the bass. That magnetic field brings the fish in heavily.

Without a doubt, the Carolina Rig has an excellent track record for bringing in the bass in almost any location. It is a must try, not only for the sport angler, but even for the weekend hobby fishermen. Why have a tale about the one that got away, when you can have a tale about one of the best fishing trips in recent history.

Many notable professionals will stand firmly to the belief that the Carolina rig is tops. Every person is different and so are their techniques, so whether you will actually use a Carolina rigging or not is entirely up to you, but you have nothing to loose in experimenting with it. You still end up with a great weekend of fishing at the lake with you pals or kids.

North Carolina is an evolving state with booming cities, yet retains its rustic charm. In this article, we highlight motorhome lodgings in North Carolina you can use as a base camp for your trip.

North Carolina is a southern state with a variety of different atmospheres. The coastal region, with its beautiful beaches and warm sun, is a popular vacation spot for families and those who enjoy the ocean. Further inland, there are mountains to please any naturalist – from the Great Smoky Mountain range to the Blue Ridge mountains; there is a spot for any hiker to enjoy. For those who are more into a collegiate atmosphere, the “Triangle” region of Durham and Chapel Hill is home to many universities. Finally, historians always enjoy a trip to Kitty Hawk – home of the Wright Brothers’ first flight. One thing is true in all of these spots – the motorhome lodgings in North Carolina are a great place to stay to experience these settings.

Located in the beautiful beach region of the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina draws visitors from all over the United States. This area is a great place to experience the beach atmosphere along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as a good place for historians to see what the Wright Brothers saw. Once a tiny village, Kitty Hawk has become one of the biggest villages on the Outer Banks – due to the historical meaning of the spot as well as the ideal beach surroundings. You can walk through the village and enjoy the fishing atmosphere, as well as the quaint beach houses and shops. Four miles away, you can see the actual site of the 1903 flight, in what is now known as Kill Devil Hills.

About an hour away from Kitty Hawk, NC is the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. While finding an motorhome park in the Kitty Hawk region is quite difficult, there are many motorhome lodgings in North Carolina that are nearby, especially in the Hatteras region. One of these lodgings is the Camp Hatteras, located in Rodanthe, NC. This lodging offers many different types of accommodations, from full hookups for your motorhome to “primitive” tent sites with no services. The camp is open year round, making it an ideal spot for a trip any time of year.

Other amenities at Camp Hatteras include concrete pads and full hookups with cable TV and wireless Internet, and three swimming pools and a Jacuzzi. Additionally, there is a laundry and shower facilities, a clubhouse and conference center, 1000 ft frontage on the Atlantic Ocean and even three stocked fishing ponds. Miniature golf and tennis are also located on site, along with a playground for children and other sporting facilities. You can easily spend a lot of time on site at this motorhome lodging and thoroughly amuse your family!

There are many different motorhome lodgings in North Carolina – with the amenities and seasonal availability varying depending on the part of the state the park is located in. Those along the shore are extremely family friendly, and are a great place for your next family vacation.

The United States is blessed with many wonderful public golf courses, including several in the state of North Carolina. In this article, we will review some of the best public golf courses in the North Carolina, and what they offer.

1. Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Course in Southern Pines, was laid out by the Scottish born golf architect, Donald Ross. The course, which has always been lovingly maintained, has in recent years been restored back towards the original Donald Ross design, while the greens’ foundations have nevertheless been rebuilt to USGA specifications.

2., 3. and 4. Pinehurt Resort and Country Club in the village of Pinehurst is home to no less than 8 different golf courses as well as the Pinehurst Golf Academy. The most highly rated are No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8. The No. 2 course was designed by Donald Ross in 1907. The No. 4 and No. 8 courses are both designs by Tom Fazio (2000 and 1996 respectively), although the No. 4 course owes a great debt to an earlier Ross course on the same site. The No. 2 is especially known as a challenging course, not because of any individual feature, but because of the combination of features that it offers, and hence is a popular site for golf championships, more in fact than any other course in the country, including having hosted the 2005 U.S. Open Championship.

5. Rivers Edge Golf Course is an Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Shallotte. The course is home to spectacular landscapes, and six of the holes sit upon bluffs which overlook the Shallotte River and surrounding marshlands.

6. Ocean Ridge Plantation in Sunset Beach is home to four courses: “Lion’s Paw”, “Panther’s Run”, “Tiger’s Eye”, and new in 2007, “Leopard’s Chase”. While all the courses have something special to offer, perhaps the best known and most highly regarded is the “Tiger’s Eye” which has been rated as one of the best public golf courses in the country by Golf Digest.

North Carolina ranks as the nation’s 28th largest state, while remaining the 10th largest in terms of population. The reason for such a large population is the vast amount of terrain and climates North Carolina has to offer. The state features the Atlantic Ocean as an eastern border, and the Appalachian and Smokey Mountain ranges along its western border. The Outer Banks also make their home in the state of North Carolina as the largest string of islands detached from the mainland in the United States. North Carolina is also home to a number of large cities that play host to professional and college sports teams. With all of these areas to explore it’s no wonder why North Carolina travel is so popular. North Carolina’s Atlantic coast covers around 45% of the state’s climate and geographic breakdown. Deep Sea fishing charters, scuba and snorkeling and assorted powerboat activities are just a few of the options families and couples have when they visit North Carolina’s Atlantic coast. Due to the formation of the Outer Banks along the coastline, the beaches along the mainland are located on the sound which means less intense waves and a shallower depth, perfect for families with little ones.

The Appalachian and Smokey Mountain ranges run along the western border of the state. The mountain ranges feature a number of activities for those interested in another side of North Carolina travel. Mount Mitchell is the tallest mountain in the state at a towering 6,684 feet. Not only does this make it the tallest mountain in the state of North Carolina, but it is also the tallest mountain on the east coast of the United States. The mountain ranges in North Carolina offer year-round fun for the entire family, everything from camping and hiking in the summer to downhill skiing and snowboarding in the winter. The Appalachian Mountain range can deliver fun during your travels through North Carolina.

The Outer Banks, located along the eastern Atlantic coast, are a string of islands that stretch along the entire coastline of the state. The fragile islands are made up of only sand that was built up over the years creating separate islands that are detached from the mainland and only connected to the rest of the state by State Highway 12. The Outer Banks themselves feature 130 miles of beautiful sandy beaches. The islands are comprised of mainly hotels and beachfront rental property. With a number of islands and beaches, North Carolina travel has never been easier.

Charlotte and Raleigh are the two biggest cities in North Carolina. Both of the cities feature a vibrant night life and a number of professional sports teams where you can catch a game while exploring the city. Charlotte is home to the NBA’s Bobcats and the NFL’s Panthers. Raleigh, on the other hand, is home to NHL’s Hurricanes. Along with professional sports teams, the state of North Carolina is home to one of the fiercest rivalries in all of college basketball. The University of North Carolina Tar Heels and the University of Duke Blue Devils have been playing each other for almost 100 years. Their games consistently rank among the most popular games of the regular season because of their deciding factor on a number of ACC championships.

With so much to do and see in the Tar Heel State, it is no wonder why North Carolina travel is so popular among families and couples from all over the United States.

There may be winter weather during February in North Carolina but that shouldn’t stop you from seeing and doing all that North Carolina has to offer. There are some of the highest ski slopes ease of the Rockies and numerous local events and festivities. In Pinehurst you will find the annual Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz event. This is a pre-Valentine’s Day event that often features Grammy-nominated artists amongst many other excellent performers. If you choose to stay at the Pinehurst Resort you can get a package deal that includes your overnight accommodations, gourmet dinner, breakfast buffet, a bottle of champagne and a ticket for the concert per each night’s stay. There are also Meet the Artist Dessert Receptions after each performance. Individual tickets are also available for the concerts.

In Durham, you will find the Annual Native American Powwow. The powwow features Native American dancing, feasting, singing and crafts. There are also intertribal dances. This is one of the largest powwows in the Southeast and attracts up to 150 dancers, six drums and crowds in the thousands. There are several crafts at the event that include beadwork, silverwork, woodcarving, and leatherwork. Foods featured include fry bread, Indian tacos, buffalo soup and corn soup.

In Wilmington you can find Fort Fisher. The port remained open longer than any other Confederate ort and was a town of about 10,000 people. The port placed an important role in keeping the Confederate troops supplied. The Fort is located on the ocean side of the Cape Fear River and the cannons of the Fort were able to keep the Union army ships at bay for some time. This allowed the blockade ships to supply the port, which were then placed on the Weldon Railroad to supply the troops.

Up the coast from Wilmington is Fort Macon. Fort Macon was built to protect Beaufort, however, it was taken by the North Carolina Militia in April 1861 and then fell again to the Union forces in April 1862. The fort is now in good condition and is the site of a state park. Many people do not realize how vital North Carolina was in the Civil War and, in fact, there is a long Civil War Trail that makes its way up the coast of North Carolina. In Creswell, you can find Somerset Plantation. This is one of North Carolina’s largest plantations. The plantation was more than 100,000 acres at its peak and was home to more than 300 slaves. The plantation house is open for visitation and features information on both the planter and slave culture on the plantation.

Situated on the South Eastern Atlantic Seaboard, North Carolina is a geographically diverse state with mountains up to 6000 feet in the west, 4000 miles of rugged coastline in the east, and the beautiful rolling hills of the Piedmont region in between.

Winter sport fans will find ample opportunities for skiing and snowboarding in any one of the eight ski resorts in North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains, which offer the highest peaks east of the Mississippi and harbor some of the lowest winter temperatures in the region. Come summer, the same mountains offer fantastic hiking opportunities through lush forests, with cascading waterfalls and stunning vistas to enjoy. Keen fishermen can take advantage of North Carolina’s many lakes, rivers and streams in which three species of trout can be found; and the 4000 miles of coastline also offer sea fishing for king mackerel, striped bass and trigger fish. For adrenaline junkies, North Carolina offers white water rafting, caving, mountain biking, surfing and scuba-diving amongst sunken shipwrecks. Motor bikers will also enjoy the long, quiet winding roads, with their sweeping curves and mountain top views.

Nature enthusiasts can look forward to the vast amounts of untouched scenery found in the state’s various national parks, which offer hiking and horse riding trails of varying lengths and difficulties, from short, flat woodland strolls to challenging mountain hikes. Be on the look out for North Carolina’s wildlife which includes a number of rare and endangered species such as the Finback Whale, Red Wolf, Eastern Cougar and West Indian Manatee. And if you’re visiting one of the bigger cities in North Carolina, such as Charlotte, you’ll find various botanical parks and gardens to visit.

Anyone who’s interested in exploring the state’s culinary offerings will find miles of wine growing regions to visit, hundreds of small farms producing organically grown foods and many restaurants specializing in local dishes made with regional produce.

Art and culture are also alive and well in North Carolina, with plenty of opportunities to watch live theatre, dance, music and visual art. The city of Charlotte, for example, is well known for its array of museums, galleries and arts venues. The Charlotte Museum of History, the Carolinas Aviation Museum and the Levine Museum of the New South are just a few of the countless sites of cultural interest in the city. You’ll also find annual festivals which celebrate this diverse culture, which is heavily influenced by the Native American Cherokees, Bluegrass music and African American history – and there are even defined trails that allow you to absorb North Carolina’s heritage at your own pace.

If you’re planning a trip to North Carolina, there are plenty of options for accommodation in Charlotte and throughout the state. With its unusual terrain, unscripted landscape and stunning cities, North Carolina makes a great vacation destination for anyone who loves culture and the great outdoors.

Esse quam Videri; To be, rather than to seem. The Latin citation, found in Cicero’s famous essay “On Friendship” is the state motto for North Carolina. These few words subtly define North Carolina’s diverse character. Its stunning natural surroundings and nostalgic charm speak for themselves, needing little decoration to enchant vacationers. North Carolina doesn’t need to “seem”. It simply is: refreshing, colorful and charming. North Carolina is rich with both regional and cultural variations. There are three major regions within North Carolina, each with its own unique character and history: the Coastal Plain, the Piedmont region and the Mountains. Each of these regions boasts abundant vacationing possibilities. For many vacationers, owning a timeshare in their favorite region may be the best way to truly make the most of each region’s unique character. Timeshare owners purchase an increment of time at the resort of their choice. Because the cost of a suite at a timeshare resort is divided between many owners, timesharing affords vacationers elegant accommodations at a fraction of the price for renting a hotel room, for example, over an extended period of time. In addition, timesharing allows guests to be more than tourists at their destination of choice. For most timeshare owners, their timeshare becomes a home away from home. From the rich communities, to comfortable accommodations, a timeshare is an opportunity to secure vacations in a favorite spot for years to come. Timeshares make it possible for vacationers to truly immerse themselves in the rich communities and cultural traditions of their favorite regions. Along the coastal plain, for example, warm water and white sand beaches beacon natives and vacationers alike to their spirited Atlantic shores. The chain of barrier islands that make up the Outer Banks, in particular, draw visitors with their mysterious charm and rich history. Many vacationers will find that, rather than pay for accommodation on a day-by-day basis, owning a timeshare in the coastal region, for example, is a worthwhile, and lucrative investment. Rather than simply wander the pristine shores of the Atlantic, collecting only seashells and a fleeting breath of fresh-air, timeshare owners can truly immerse themselves in the culture of this historic region. Certainly owning a timeshare on the Coastal Plain allows vacationers to sink their toes into cool sand, breath in salt-tinged air and take home their fair share of pink-edged seashells; but timeshare owners have the unique opportunity to become a member of this unique community, rather than merely a tourist. From the enchanting blooms of Elizabethan Gardens, to the inspirational and informative speeches at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, timeshare owners in this unique region can feel a part of his exciting and nostalgic community. Prepaid, weeklong accommodation in a resort community not only saves owners’ money, also renters. This type of vacationing is not only beneficial to owners, but renters as well. Renting timeshare allows guests to sample the lifestyle without the lifetime commitment. Either way, the timesaving benefits of timeshare are paramount. When vacationing in North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains, for example, guests would surely prefer to spend their time hiking along the over 250 miles of the world-famous Blue Ridge Parkway than hiking from hotel to hotel, vainly searching for affordable accommodations. With timeshare, your accommodations have long-since been arranged and your maintenance-fees have ensured optimum upkeep. Finally, timeshares have the benefit of being very flexible. Of course, the Appalachian Mountain range might still make your heart skip a beat, but why not spend a week falling in love with the gently rolling foothills and bustling Metropolis of the Piedmont region? Many timeshares allow owners the option to exchange their week, either internally through the resort or with an exchange company like Interval International or Resort Condominiums International. North Carolina is a state of many textures. With something for everyone, it’s easy to see why this diverse state is quickly becoming a favorite vacation destination. For many, timesharing may be the best option to experience everything this burgeoning vacation spot has to offer. A helpful place for obtaining more information regarding timeshares and timeshare opportunities is: SellMyTimeshareNOW.

By: Jack Mitchell

All of the fishermen, especially those who live in North Carolina love to compare the lakes in their place and also how they make fishing a great hobby.

When you start to pile things up, it becomes noticeable right away that there are some “kissing cousins” among bass lakes in the Tar Heel State of North Carolina: reservoirs that look like each other closely are enough that they are said to “fish alike.” And that no two reservoirs are more strongly related, it can be argued, than High Rock Lake and Buggs Island Lake.

Heres a tip for you crank bait fishermen: If you use the clip locks, use the Norman Speedclips, taking the factory split ring off so the clip goes directly to the bait keeps the action of the bait true and you have a lot less trouble with the line fouling. That is best to use in North Carolina Bass Fishing.

For bass pro and Buggs Island guide Joel Richardson, summer bass success means hitting main-lake structure in 12 to 20 feet of water. are relatively shallow, as Piedmont lakes go; they are fed heavily by tributary creeks but affected more by river current, and no one will ever confuse them with clear lakes. They’re also shallow enough upstream that navigation into the upper areas can be touchy.

And for some glorious reason, all of those features cause or allow bass to bite on those three reservoirs when the weather is pushing 90 degrees and more pages on the calendar have been throw away than are remaining.

They are the kingpins of their respective river systems – High Rock on the Yadkin and Buggs Island on the Roanoke. They are both relatively fertile, growing good populations of bass, stripers, crappie and catfish of various shapes and sizes.

This will melt the plastic back together. Obviously you don’t want to use this trick over buying new baits, but if you’re stuck on the water with no spare baits, this will get you through the day.
All of them are fed by a lot of very nice, large creeks. None of them would ever be considered “clear” by any stretch of the imagination. All of them have a very strong rung at the bottom of the food-chain ladder: great populations of baitfish.

Now take this as an example, the three wonderful reservoirs in the Piedmont region of North Carolina: Buggs Island Lake, Jordan Lake and High Rock Lake. None of them are tremendously deep reservoirs. At least three fishermen in North Carolina appreciate this phenomenon.

When you rip a hole in your soft plastic bait, heat the blade of your knife with a lighter and insert the hot blade in the tear.

After a heavy down pour fish anywhere you can find water running into the lake this water will be full of nutrients starting a vibrant food chain and bass will be all over it.

Stitching. Lots of big Bass specialist uses this method for connecting with BIG Bass. You simply pull the bait along very slowly with your hand rather than your reel. This forces you to slow down and really enhances the feel of your bait and any pickup.

Everything from why you are supposed to wear your life jacket, theories on the shape versus size of baits and why some colors work and some don’t. You will also find general tips about how to arrange or store your tackle, equipment needed for shore fishing, and ways to stay safe when you are out enjoying our great sport of bass fishing.

Beginners for bass fishing is a significant area to cover. I hope that we have been able to help you out as a beginner in having a north Carolina bass fishing and hope that you will return for more beginners tips and articles soon. Now what are you waiting for? The water is just waiting for you to come around and fish. Get your equipments ready and be bewildered with your first catch.

Experience bass fishing in north Carolina to have that new feel and experience that you won’t want to miss all your life.
